Amit Wadhwaney
Moerus Capital Management (New York)
Lecture: “Global Deep Value Investing”
Portfolio Manager and Co-Founding Partner at Moerus Capital Management LLC, and the founding manager of the Moerus Worldwide Value Fund. Mr. Wadhwaney has over 25 years of experience researching and analyzing investment opportunities in developed, emerging, and frontier markets worldwide, and has managed global investment portfolios since 1996. Prior to founding Moerus, Mr. Wadhwaney was a Portfolio Manager and Partner at Third Avenue Management LLC. Mr. Wadhwaney founded the international business at Third Avenue and was the founding manager of the Third Avenue Global Value Fund, LP, the Third Avenue Emerging Markets Fund, LP, and the Third Avenue International Value Fund, an open-end mutual fund. Earlier in his career, Mr. Wadhwaney was first a securities analyst, and then Director of Research at M.J. Whitman LLC, a New York-based broker-dealer. Mr. Wadhwaney holds an M.B.A. in Finance from The University of Chicago. He also holds a B.A. with honors and an M.A. in Economics from Concordia University; at Concordia, he was awarded the Sun Life Prize and the Concordia University Fellow in Economics, subsequently having taught Economics there. He also holds B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Minnesota.

Formerly, he was a partner with Stone Pagamentos, having worked in its M&A arm, in the group’s holding for proprietary investing (Arpex), and in other strategic divisions. Caio Conde graduated in Economic Science from Insper and was awarded a scholarship for academic merit by Fundação Lemann, carrying out part of his studies at the University of St. Gallen, in Switzerland.

Founding partner and manager with Real Investor, investment management firm with approximately R$ 2.9 billion under management and whose flagship fund accumulates a gain of more than 1,500% in its 12 years of existence. Cesar Paiva has more than 17 years of experience working in financial and capital markets, always following the value investing philosophy. He graduated in Business Administration from PUC-PR and holds MBAs in Finance, Controlling, and Audit as well as in Corporate Management, both from Fundação Getulio Vargas. He also holds ANBIMA’s CGA Certification.

Analyst and portfolio manager of the Bojlesen FIA — whose strategy, since 2008 (initially as the Clube de Investimentos Bojlesen), focuses on fundamental analysis, value investing and small caps — which he founded in 2008. Christian Bojlesen graduated in Business Administration with emphasis in Finance from Colorado State University and holds the CGA (ANBIMA) and CNPI (Apimec) certifications.

Partner with Victori Capital and a member of its investment team since its inception, in 2014. Daniel Haddad has 15 years of professional experience including investment management, M&A, Corporate Finance, and investor relations. Before joining Victori, he worked at Grupo EBX, MPX Energia, and Suzano Petroquimica. Daniel Haddad graduated in Production Engineerning from PUC-RJ, holds a postgraduate degree in Finance from IBMEC-RJ, and holds an MBA (with distinction) from NYU’s Stern School of Business, where he received a scholarship for merit and was a monitor for professor Aswath Damodaran.
Daniel Henrique Gewehr

Partner, Portfolio Manager, and Head of Research at WHG. Daniel Gewehr has more than 20 years of experience with equity investing. Formerly, he was Santander’s Chief Strategist and Head of Research for 14 years, responsible for local and international portfolio structuring. Before that, he worked at Gerval family office and at broker-dealer Solidus. Daniel Gewehr is the professional ranked most times by Institutional Investor (II) during the last decade, with 37 rankings, including first place in LatAm Strategy in 2020. He graduated in Business Administration and holds a master’s degree in Finance from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He has participated in various Finance and Strategy programs in universities including Harvard, Columbia, Chicago, Edinburgh, and Nebraska (Omaha).
Fabio Alperowitch

Lecture: “ ‘Sustainability versus Return’ — ESG’s False Dichotomy”
Fabio Alperowitch, CFA is a founding partner with FAMA Investimentos, an independent investment management firm founded in 1993 that focuses on high-quality Brazilian companies that adhere to good ESG practices. The firm currently manages about R$ 2.7 billion — predominantly from non-Brazilian investors, especially pension funds and endowments. The fund has a compounded return of 21% per year, compared with a return of 14% per year of the Ibovespa Index during the same period. FAMA Investimentos is certified as a “B Corp” and is a founder with Net Zero Asset Managers. Fabio Alperowitch graduated in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas, is a Member of the Board of Directors of WWF Brasil, of Capitalismo Consciente Brasil, and of GRI Brasil, and has founded three other ONGs. He holds the CFA — Chartered Financial Analyst — designation.
Luiz Fernando Figueiredo

Opening Lecture: “Inflation, Interest Rates, and the Brazilian Currency”
Founding partner and CEO of Maua Capital, Luiz Fernando Figueiredo is also a Director with ANBIMA, Chairman of the Board of Instituto Fefig and Board Member with Associação Parceiros da Educação. He was a Director of Banco Central do Brasil between 1999 e 2003, Board Member and Coordinator of B3’s Risk and Finance Committee and Member of B3’s Issuance Committee, and was a founding partner of Gavea Investimentos. Formerly, he was a partner and Treasury Director of Banco BBA, held directorship positions at Banco Nacional, JPMorgan, and local broker-dealers, and was AMEC’s President. Luiz Figueiredo graduated in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance, from FAAP.

Lecture: “Alternative Investments in Brazil — Where Are the Best Distressed-Asset Opportunities?”
Founding Partner responsible for structuring co-investments and developing international partnerships at Jive Investments, as well as a member of its Investment Committee. Before founding Jive, Marcelo Martins worked for 12 years in private equity and investment banking, focusing on the origination, execution, and monitoring of transactions in the United States, Asia, Europe, and in Brazil — having worked for Axiom Capital Management, GP Investimentos, and Goldman Sachs. He also co-founded Spring Wireless, a technology company that had as investors Intel Capital, Goldman Sachs, and UBS. Marcelo Martins holds an Electrical Engineering degree from UNICAMP and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Wayne Himelsein
Logica Capital Advisers (Los Angeles)
Lecture: “Negative Skew — the Shared Pain Across the Hedge Fund Industry: A Solution”
As a 20+ year veteran of the securities industry, Wayne Himelsein (a UC Berkeley alum) founded Logica Capital Advisers (“Logica”) and currently serves as its President and Chief Investment Officer. In this capacity, he heads the portfolio management team, and is a member of both the investment and risk committees. Wayne Himelsein began his career in 1995 as a proprietary trader at the Carlin Financial Group (acquired by RBC Capital Markets). Following his success there, he launched his first hedge fund in 1999, and went on to manage money for private clients and major institutions such as Hyundai Securities and Millennium. In a strategy he later developed in 2005, he ran over 300 mm of private and institutional capital. Throughout his career, Wayne Himelsein has continued to develop, evolve and refine his quantitative trading and portfolio management models. Most recently, beginning in 2011, he and his team conducted four years of R&D to solve the problems inherent in hedge funds’ quest to produce absolute returns regardless of market regime, which serve as the basis of the Logica Fund.
Werner Roger

Lecture: “Small-Cap Investing in Brazil and Investment Case”
Founding partner — with Frederico Mesnik — and Chief Investor Officer of Trigono Capital, an investment manager focusing on Brazilian small caps: stocks of companies with a market value below R$ 5 billion and/or liquidity below R$ 10 million. An authority in the Brazilian small-cap market, Werner Roger was responsible for this strategy at Victoire Brasil Investimentos, investment management firm of which he was a founding partner and which got close to one billion dollars in AUM. His career includes 19 years in asset management (nine of them with Victoire), four years in sell-side research, and a total of 39 years in financial markets (encompassing his experience in credit, M&A, proprietary equity, and structured transactions), with professional roles in leading global organizations such as Chase Manhattan Bank, Citibank, and Western Asset Management (Legg Mason). Werner Roger graduated in Agronomic Engineering from Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp) and holds the Gestor CVM, PDC Fundação Dom Cabral, ANBIMA’s CPA-20, and ANBIMA’s CGA certifications.
